Tang Priest and his three disciples traveled westward.
One night, they arrived at the Tongtian River, which was 800 kilometers wide with torrential(汹涌的) waters. They had to put up for the night in a nearby village because they had no way to cross the river.
They came to a house in which lived a man named Chen Cheng and his family. The whole family was crying. The group soon learned that in the Tongtian River there was a spirit who asked the village to send him a virgin girl and a virgin boy every year as a sacrifice(祭品) . And this year was Chen Cheng's turn. Learning this, Monkey King consoled(安慰) the Chens, and promised them that he and Pig would act as the boy and girl to wait for the spirit in the temple.
At midnight, the spirit came to the temple to reach for the girl. Pig, the pretended girl, in a hurryswirled his rake(耙) at the spirit. The spirit fled into the river. The next morning, Tang Priest and his disciples woke up and found the 800-kilometer-wide river frozen. San Zang urged his disciples to cross the river over the ice. When they reached the middle of the river, the ice cracked and the river swallowed Tang Priest who was then captured by the spirit. The three disciples ran after the spirit who knew he was no match for them and did not come out.
Monkey King had to seek help from Guanyin (a Bodhis-attva). It turned out that the spirit was a big goldfish in the South Sea lotus pond. The fish escaped from the Buddha to hurt people. So the Buddha was asked to retrieve(取回) the fish spirit.
Later, the four were worrying about how to cross the river. Suddenly, there came an old turtle, who said, "I used to live in the river. Now that you have chased away the spirit, I am back. Let me help you get across the river." So the four jumped over the turtle’s back and the turtle took them to the other side of the river.
Red Boy, the Bull Demon King and Princess Iron Fan's son, had cultivated his physical and mental capacities and pollessed magic abilities. With powerful magics he always had the idea of eating the meat of Sanzang, the Tang Priest (whose meat could make creatures live longer) tolengthen his life.
One day while he was watching in the sky, he saw Sanzang and his disciples(门徒) coming from afar. He knew that the disciples had excellent fighting skills, so he planned to capture Sanzang by making use of the priest's kindness and muddled(糊涂的) mind, rather than use force.
At a spot just ahead of where Sanzang and his group were, Red Boy turned himself into a boy of seven and hung himself on the top of a tree with his hands and feet tied with a rope and cried for help. The Tang Priest heard the boy's cries and asked Monkey to release him. Monkey, seeing that the boy was actually a demon in disguise(伪装) , told his master not to bother. Sanzang got angry, and he asked Pig to bring the boy down from the tree. He ordered Monkey to carry he boy on his back. As they started to go, Red Boy jumped into mid-air, leaving behind a false Red Boy for Monkey to carry. To kidnap Sanzang, Red Boy hurled a whirl of wind at him. Sanzang disappeared.
Monkey knew this was done by the demon and he asked Pig and Friar Sandto look after the luggage and he hurried to the Huofang Cave in the Withered Pine Valley to look for his master. A fierce battle ensued(接着发生) between Monkey and Red Boy. Knowing it is impossible to defeat Monkey, Red Boy spurted three types of flames which were so powerful even the Dragon King could not put out. Monkey, knowing he could not win, jumped out of the sea of fire and went to the South Sea to ask the Goddess Guanyin for help. The goddessvanquished(征服) Red Boy and brought him to the South Sea. Monkey saved Sanzang and Sanzang and his disciples continued their journey to the West in search of Buddhistscriptures(佛经) .
The Tang Priest and his three disciples, Monkey(Wukong), Pig and Friar Sand, were heading towards the Western Heaven. Gradually they began to feel hotter and hotter in the warm air. It was very strange, because it was autumn. Later they learnt that the Fiery Mountains were just ahead of them.
The mountains had a circumference of 800 li, on which not a blade of grass could grow. A young man selling cakes told them that it was not possible to cross the mountains without a special plantain(芭蕉) fan which could only be borrowed from Princess Iron Fan. After having made arrangements for his master, Monkey left for the Plantain Cave to see Princess Iron Fan.
The princess was the wife of the Bull Demon King and the Red Boy's mother. Some time ago, Red Boy had tried to eat the Tang Priest and Monkey had subdued(使服从，压制) him. Hence Princess Iron Fan hated Monkey and refused to lend the fan to him. Instead she blew Monkey right out of sight with a single wave of her plantain fan. Bodhisattva Lingji heard about this and gave Monkey a Wind-Fixing Pill. Monkey came to borrow the magic fan for the second time. With the Wind-Fixing Pill in his mouth, Monkey could not be moved no matter how hard the princess waved the fan. The princess hurried back to the cave and had the doors closed tightly. However, Monkey turned himself into an insect and got into the princess' belly when she was drinking tea. The princess could not stand the pain, so that she agreed to lend the fan to Monkey, but she actually gave him a false one. The third time Monkey came for the fan hedecided to turn himself into the Bull Demon King. He got the fan. Upon hearing of this trickery, the Bull Demon King came hurriedly chasing after Monkey. They engaged in a fierce struggle. Soon Pig and Friar Sand came to Monkey's help and forced the Bull Demon King to show his true colors.
With the plantain fan, Monkey put out the fire. The master and his three disciples continued their journey to the West to fetch scriptures.

This story is called "The Farmer and the Snake." Every day, a farmer went to the city to sell his flowers and farm produce and then went home after selling all his things. One day, he left home very early, so early that when he arrived at the city, the gate was still closed. So he lay down to take a nap, when he awoke he found that the storage bin containing his farm produce had become empty except that there was a gold coin inside. Although all the things in the bin had vanished, the gold was much more valuable so he was still very happy. He thought most probably someone had taken his things and left the payment there, and went home happily with the money.
The next day, the farmer again went out to sell his things but again arrived too early so he slept outside the city gate just like he had done the day before. And the incident repeated itself. All the produce that the farmer had brought disappeared, and there was a gold coin in the bin! At that time, gold was very valuable. One gold coin had a value many times higher than the farmer's produce.
Then one day some time later, the farmer's father asked him, "Where have you gotten so many gold coins lately? Where did the money come from?" So the farmer revealed to his father what had happened. After listening to his story, the father thought, "One day I'll follow my son as he goes out, and see who's been consuming his things and leaving the money in the bin."
So one day, when the farmer went out to do business, his father quietly followed him. While the farmer was sleeping near the city gate, his father saw a snake crawl up to his bin and eat his produce. Having finished eating, the snake once again spat a gold coin into the bin as payment to the farmer before leaving. Seeing this, the farmer's father thought, "If I kill the snake, I'll be able to seize all its gold coins!" He then picked up a stone and cut the snake into two parts.
At that time, the head and trunk of the snake were already in its den, and only the tail was outside. The father thought that there must be a big treasure in the den so he told his son to reach inside for it. But unexpectedly, when the farmer reached his hand into the den, the snake bit and killed him! Even though it had been cut into two, the snake could still bite! I understand how this could have happened because that was how I got bitten when I was small. At that time, I saw a centipede that had been beaten and squashed by someone, leaving only the head intact. I thought it was dead, and to make sure, I poked it with my foot. It bit me hard and I cried for three days. (Laughter) I was really dumb! Remember! Don't play with a centipede even if it looks dead. Sometimes it just fakes death; it's not really dead.
这个故事叫做农夫和蛇。有一个农夫，每天到城里去卖他自己种的花和农产品，卖完以后就回家。有一天，他很早出门，来到城门时，因为还太早，城门还没开，所以他就先躺在那边睡觉。当他醒过来时，看到他装农产品的瓶子都空空了，里面多了一块黄金的钱。虽然瓶子里的东西不见了，不过那块黄金的钱已经很多了，所以他还是非常高兴。他想大概有人拿走他的东西，然后放钱在那边，于是就快乐地带着钱回家了。
隔天，农夫又出门去做买卖，同样也是来得太早，所以他又在城门那边睡觉。结果又发生一样的事情，农夫带来的东西都不见了，瓶子里面又多了一块黄金的钱!那时候黄金是很有价值，所以一块黄金的钱比农夫的农产品还高出好几倍的价值。
后来有一天，农夫的父亲问他：最近你怎么忽然间得到那么多黄金的钱?那些钱是从哪里来的?农夫就把他遇到的事情告诉他的父亲。他的父亲听了以后，心想：我要找一天跟着我的儿子出门，看看到底是谁吃他的东西，然后把钱放在他的瓶子里面。
有一天农夫出去做买卖时，他的父亲就默默跟着他。当农夫在城门附近睡觉的时候，他的父亲看到一条蛇爬到他的瓶子那边吃他的东西，吃完以后，就吐出一块黄金的钱到瓶里面，算是付钱给他这样子，然后蛇就爬走了。农夫的父亲想：「如果我把这条蛇杀掉，就可以得到它全部黄金的钱了!」于是他找了一块石头，把那条蛇割成两段。
那时候，那条蛇的头部和身体已经爬进它的窝里面，只剩下尾巴露在外面。农夫的父亲认为蛇窝里面有很多宝藏，就叫农夫伸手去拿。没想到当农夫把手伸进去时，却被蛇咬死了!被割成两段的蛇竟然还可以咬人啊!这种情形我知道，我小的时候也曾经被这样咬过。那时候我看到一只蜈蚣被人家打扁了，只剩下头还没扁，我认为它已经死了。为了要确定看看它是不是真的死了，我就用脚去拨看看，结果被咬了一口，哭了三天(大家笑)，太笨了!你们要记得，看到蜈蚣不应该玩，即使它已经死了，也不要跟它玩，因为有时候它只是装死而已，还没有真的死。
Mr White was a soldier when he was young .He was brave and killed a lot of enemies and he was also hurt in the fights .He lost his right eye ,his nose and a leg .But he was givern much money for it and he nealy had all the things he wanted .Only one thing troubled him :no girl would marry such a man like him though he was rich .

One day he was given some food and wasn’t hungry .And he began to go to an old ,broken house in which he lived .A kind-hearted woman stopped him and asked ,“We have some leftovers here .Do you want some ?”
“I’am sorry ,madam ,”said Mike .“Now I wanted only some cake .”

“Because it’s my birthday today !”
Mrs Turner lives in a small town .Her husband died in a traffic accident and left her little money .She was hungry and lived a cold room in winter .A shopkeeper had pity on her and told her to cook for him .He pays her some money and she doesn’t worry about food or clothes any longer .
The woman is often ready to help others .She does her best to give something to the poor persons .Sometimes she would rather be hungry ,she gives her food to the poor .And she’s liked and everybody knows her .
One Sunday Mrs Turner rested at home .A few men came to beg something .She hardly gave all to them and left only some food for supper .That is evening ,while she was doing some sewing in the room ,she heard somebody knocking at the door .She opened the door and saw an old man standing outside .
“Please have a pity on me ,Mrs Turner ,”said the old man .“I’ve eaten nothing for days .Could you give me some food ,please ?”

Robert was a clever young man and got on well with his classmates .They all liked him and played with him though he often boasted .He was strong and often had sports .He hoped to join the army when he left the middle school .Bad luck !His leg was hurt in a traffic accident and he couldn’t walk .He had to go to his home village and help his father to manage the farm .He read a lot of books on farming and did well in it .He got much money and bought a few farms next to hs and ten years later he became the richest farmer in his village .
Once Robert net several friends in the capital .Some of them were famous in their country .They knew nothing about their lame friend .It made him unhappy and he asked them to visit his farm .They agreed and went there with him .They saw a beautiful house with a big garden when they got there .They found he had a lot of sheep ,pigs and cows .Robert and his family warmly received the guests from London .The next morning he took them to his farm .It was so large that they couldn’t see the other end and it surprised them all .
“It’ll take you two days to reach the other end of my farm by car !”Robert said happily .
“I think something is wrong with your cars !”one of the guests said with a smile .
